Park Hills Drainageway Project Update: Traffic Control on Devonshire Dr. the Week of April 15

April 5, 2024 Project Update:

The Park Hills Drainageway Project remains ahead of schedule. The test pits and concrete encasement in the middle and lower reach was halted but will resume the week of April 8, 2024 along with installation of the storm pipe at the top of the project. The installation of the access path in the upper reach was completed. 

Water main relocation and sewer line upgrade work related to the new storm pipe on Devonshire Drive is expected to begin the week of April 15, 2024. There will not be any interruptions in service for those utilities related to that work, but delays can be expected along Devonshire Drive while that work is being performed. Flaggers will manage traffic when the street is restricted to one lane.

Overview

The Park Hills Drainageway Project is an undertaking by the Ferguson Township Public Works Department to manage stormwater going into the Park Hills Stream stretching from Devonshire Drive to Park Hills Park. The scope of the project includes stormwater management, erosion control, improvement of utilities in the drainageway, and tree preservation.

For the duration of the project, motorists may encounter traffic control measure, but one lane of traffic should remain open at all times.

This project's completion is expected by mid-2025.

February 6, 2024 Project Update

A base station, similar to the one pictured, has been set up at Homestead Park to assist with survey accuracy. The station will be in place throughout the duration of the project.

Current work on the project includes rock construction entrances, site access roads, instillation of sediment filter socks, tree clearing, root pruning, and placement of tree protection fences.

For the duration of the project, motorists may encounter traffic control measure, but one lane of traffic should remain open at all times.

Township Awarded Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant (Posted August 25, 2023)

The Park Hills Drainageway Project has gone out to bid and work is anticipated to begin by the end of the year.

The Park Hills Drainageway Project is an undertaking by the Ferguson Township Public Works Department to manage stormwater going into the Park Hills Stream stretching from Devonshire Drive to Park Hills Park. The scope of the project includes stormwater management, erosion control, improvement of utilities in the drainageway, and tree preservation.

Ferguson Township staff are devoted to seeking out and applying for sources of funding which help offset the costs of improvement projects such as this one. In 2021, Ferguson Township staff secured a grant of $200,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Fund and in April of 2023, another $500,000 was awarded through the Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant offered by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. Funds from both grants will be used to pursue implementation of the Park Hills Drainageway Project.
