Halloween in Ferguson Township

Safe Halloween

Trick-or-Treat in Ferguson Township will take place on October 31 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The Ferguson Township Police Department would like to remind residents of basic safety tips to ensure the well-being of all those out trick-or-treating.

When getting your costume picked out, check that the costume itself and costume accessories such as wigs are fire-resistant. Ensure that Halloween makeup is nontoxic and test on a small area of skin first to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction. Be sure to wash any Halloween make-up off before bed.

Any young children out trick-or-treating should ALWAYS be accompanied by a responsible adult. If your children are older and want to go out by themselves, review their trick-or-treating route beforehand and agree on a time they should return home. They should only travel in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends. When out trick-or-treating during the night, make sure your children can be seen by putting on reflective tape on their costumes and goodie bags. Anything that produces light is appropriate; maybe even work in in as part of the costume!

Make sure your children know to never enter a stranger's home or car, looking both ways when crossing the street and avoid getting distracted by electronic devices.

If you are a motorist during trick-or-treat make sure to watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs. Exit out of driveways carefully and always check your surroundings. When it is dark out, be extra vigilant to notice any trick-or-treaters that may be in dark clothing.

Happy Trick-or-Treating!
