Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Ferguson Township observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. We would like to bring light to the fact that most of us know someone who is a victim of domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a recurring and deliberate pattern of abusive behavior perpetrated by a partner, former partner, or familial relationship to gain power and maintain control over another. It affects people from all backgrounds is something no person should have to go through.

  • 74% of Americans know a victim of domestic violence
  • 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime
  • 1 in 10 men experience domestic violence in their lifetime
  • Annual health-related costs of domestic violence exceed $5.8 billion

Leaving a violent relationship is a process that can take up to 7 to 11 attempts before the victim can get away and even then, safety cannot be ensured. If you or a loved one need help, know that the Ferguson Township Police are here to help. We can be contacted by calling 800-479-0050 or online at our web page.

We are also proud to support Centre Safe, formerly the Centre County Women's Resource Center. It is the mission of Centre Safe to empower survivors of sexual or domestic violence, and to work toward the elimination of such violence through crisis intervention, education, and advocacy. If you or a loved one are experiencing violence in a relationship, you can also reach out to Centre Safe via their 24-hour hotline. Someone will always be there to answer the call and to hear you.
