Do I need to obtain a zoning permit for a swimming pool (in-ground or above-ground)?

Yes a zoning permit is required to install a swimming pool. 

  • Prefabricated swimming pools that are less than 24 inches deep are exempt from permitting.
  • Swimming pools cannot be located in the front or side yard setback area but may be located in the rear yard setback, provided that no part of the pool, including paved areas and accessory structures excluding fencing, shall be located within 10 feet of the rear property line.
  • The pool and accessory structures will count towards the allowable impervious coverage for the lot.

If the information contained in this FAQ contradicts or is inconsistent with the ordinance, the Zoning Ordinance or Subdivision & Land Development Ordinance shall prevail.
