Board Authorizes Traffic Projects, Signal at Science Park and Sandy Drive

traffic signs

The Board of Supervisors authorized the following traffic projects at the February 20, 2024, regular meeting:

  1. Amendment to Ordinance § 15-214 Stop Intersections Established. Stop Except Right Turn signage to be added at the intersections of:
    • Cherry Lane and Allen Street – this intersection operation will remain the same.
The only change would be the addition of Stop and Except Right Turn signs on the eastbound approach of Cherry Lane at Allen Street to clarify that vehicles that do not turn right onto Allen Street are required to Stop. This establishes the right of way for the major movement of vehicles traveling north on Allen Street that turn left onto Cherry Lane.
    • Foxpointe Drive and Pine Hall Road – this intersection's operation will change.
Currently, Pine Hall Road has a Stop sign and there is no control on Foxpointe Drive. The change would be to remove the Stop from Pine Hall Road and install Stop and Except Right Turn signs on northbound Foxpointe Drive and a Stop sign on southbound Foxpointe Drive (currently a private driveway).
  2. Application for a flashing signal at the West Cherry Lane school zone.
  3. Application for a traffic signal at the intersection of Science Park Road and Sandy Drive North.
An Open House was held on February 6, 2024. Learn more about this project.
  4. Submission of Green Light Go grant application.
Funding will offset costs of a project at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Blue Course Drive / Clinton Avenue to implement improvements as recommended in the Northland Area Mobility Study.
