Winterizing Your Pools and Hot Tubs

With winter just around the corner, it is important to start prepping your home for the inevitable cold. One step to making sure your home is ready is winterizing your pools or hot tubs. Managing your pool's chemistry and water level will prevent freezing and damage. 

Many hardware stores sell kits to winterize your pool to prevent freezing. Once spring rolls around again, make sure to add back in chemicals lost to ensure your pool is protected in the spring.

When draining your pool or hot tub during the winter, remember, the Township's stormwater ordinance only permits the discharge of dechlorinated water from swimming pools into our municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4).  If the water is not decholorinated, it cannot be discharged into the Township’s MS4.
