Schlow to Begin Doorside Pickup Service Monday

Patrons can use “Ready, Set, Schlow” method to reserve, take out print items
Schlow Library

Starting Monday, June 8, Schlow Centre Region Library will begin offering doorside pick-ups of print items that patrons have placed reserves on. A staffed pick-up station will be set up outside of the main entrance to the library, at 211 South Allen Street, State College.

The pickup hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The 9 to 10 a.m. hour on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays is reserved for patrons most vulnerable to contracting the coronavirus.

At this time, only print items will be available to check out. As we move forward, Schlow will be adding hours to its service and additional materials to check out.

For patrons, picking up books will be as easy as “Ready, Set, Schlow!”

“Ready.” Patrons visit schlowlibrary.org and find materials that they would like to check out. They can either request them online or by calling 814-237-6236. Schlow will send an email or text notification when their requests are available for pickup. Depending on the item and staff availability, this could be the same day or later. For patrons who placed holds on items prior to the library’s closing due to COVID-19, their print items have been retrieved and will be available for pickup. They will have until June 26 or longer to pick up their materials.

Schlow is asking patrons to, if possible, pick up materials on the day assigned to the first letter of their last name. Regardless of the day a patron comes, Schlow is there to provide them service. The request is to help minimize wait times. The designated days are:

Monday: A to D

Tuesday: E to I

Wednesday: J to M

Thursday: N to R

Friday: S to Z

“Set.” When patrons come to the library to pick up their materials they should have their library card or library card number with them and a face mask to wear. Cars can enter the library’s parking lot (no validation necessary) and park.

The best way for patrons to avoid standing in line is before walking up to the building, text “Checkin” to 814-801-0020, and follow the instructions in the reply message that is received. Patrons who are wearing a face mask also can go to the walk-up line and stand a minimum of 6 feet from others as they wait to pick up their materials.

“Schlow.” A library staff member will retrieve the materials. Patrons can take the materials that will be delivered in a bag and safely exit the walkway, preferably down the front stairs if they are able.

Finally, patrons can enjoy their materials and are welcome to visit Schlow again to pick up more! Schlow will continue to adjust operations according to state and federal guidelines for public libraries. At this time, it is unknown when it will be permissible to open the building for visitors.
