May is National Bike Month!
State College, PA – May is a great time to get out and ride, and we have lots of great reasons for you to get on your bike!
Throughout the month of May, there are a variety of solo and virtual bike activities planned with extra events planned for National Bike to Work Week which is
May 17 - 23 this year.
New to the bike event line up in 2021 is Push the Pedal. Push the Pedal encourages residents to complete ten (or more) Biking Adventures for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a local bike shop. For more information visit centremoves.org.
The third Friday in May is traditionally National Bike to Work Day and in the Centre Region it is also Spring Bike Anywhere Friday. Bike Anywhere Friday is an event we do four times a year – winter, spring, summer, and fall. So, consider leaving your car behind on Friday, May 21 and let pedal power fuel your ride for a chance to win a $50 Freeze Thaw gift card. Rides can be registered at crcog.net/bikes.
The Centre Regional Planning Agency (CRPA) has partnered with State College Borough, Ferguson Township, Patton Township, Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Centre Moves, Penn State Transportation Services, and CentreBike on the following events:
- Push the Pedal
- Bike Scavenger Hunt
- Bike Month Bingo
- Bike Lingo Word Search
- Municipal Bike Chats
- Spring Bike Anywhere Friday
- Bike and Munch
During both May and June you can also support our local restaurants through Centre County Bike and Munch. Anyone who rides their bike to an eating establishment in Centre County and buys some grub can enter to win a gift card to a local bike shop by submitting a selfie with their bike and the receipt to bikeandmunch@centrebike.org. The best part is every visit to a restaurant qualifies you for another entry and increases your odds of winning.
Matthew Cox, CentreBike President, says, “We wanted to make it simple, and most cyclists have already biked to a restaurant and can enter and don’t even realize it! We want cyclists to enter every time they bike to an area eating establishment in Centre County. It is good for the environment, great exercise, and supports our area restaurants.”
In addition to all these great events, Ferguson Township will be hosting our second Virtual Bike Chat on Thursday, May 20 at 12:30 PM. This chat is an opportunity for residents to engage over biking, and the exciting events happening during bike month! All skill levels are invited to participate. The event will be hosted Assistant Manager, Centrice Martin & the Senior Transportation Planner, and feature guest speakers, Sargent Hendrick and a member of Parks and Recreation Committee.
