Ferguson Township made history on January 3, 2022, swearing in an all-female Board of Supervisors, the first in the Centre Region.

Supervisors Ms. Tierra Williams and Ms. Hillary Caldwell were sworn in as the newcomers to the Board. Supervisor Ms. Lisa Strickland was also sworn in after being re-elected in 2021, joining Chair Ms. Laura Dininni and Ward III Member Ms. Patricia Stephens.

On being elected and sworn-in to the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Ms. Tierra Williams stated:

"I am humbled and honored to have been elected to represent Ferguson Township on the Board of Supervisors. To be the first Afro-American, is a privilege, and I have a responsibility to speak up for my community, and the disenfranchised. As the youngest woman elected- in a year where the first all female Board of Supervisors has made history, is to say the least, proof that our residents desired progression. I look forward to working with my fellow Madame Supervisors, as we find ways to bridge communication within our Township through community engagement, transparency, and accountability. The Future is Ferguson!"

Supervisor Ms. Hilary Caldwell stated on being elected:

"I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ferguson Township as part of a historic all-female-identifying board. I am also reflecting on the diversity of lived experiences on this board -- myself a queer, Jewish woman -- and am proud to contribute by providing a young, fresh, and progressive perspective. A hallmark of good governance is community participation, and I will strive to encourage engagement so that our decisions are informed by our neighbors, while also moving us forward. And Ferguson Township has been a steward in the region for Climate Action and Sustainability, and I am honored to take up the mantle from the pioneers who came before me."

In addition, the first female president judge of the Centre County Court of Common Pleas, Judge Ruest, led the swearing-in ceremony. Over 50 people attended the historic ceremony both virtually and in-person.

Following their swearing-in, the Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of 2022. You can view their upcoming meeting dates here.
