Ferguson Township Public Works Building LEED® Plaque Ceremony

LEED

A ceremony was held on May 25, 2023, to present Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) GOLD certification to the Ferguson Township Public Works Building.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Through design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.

Ferguson Township achieved LEED GOLD certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Green buildings allow companies to operate more sustainably and give the people inside them a healthier, more comfortable space to work.

"It is an honor to serve as the Manager of Ferguson Township, a municipality that is taking the lead to address climate change through many achievements, such as amending the Township's Home Rule Charter in 2017 to include Ferguson Township's Community Bill of Rights and constructing this beautiful public works building that was designed to offer sustainable environmental and social benefits," said Ferguson Township Manager Centrice Martin.

In addition to the Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors and USGBC representative Jessica Gracie-Griffin who presented the plaque to the Township, the Township was honored to have present at the ceremony several special guests, including Centre County Commissioners Mark Higgins, Amber Concepcion, and Steven Dersham; Ferguson Township former manager David Pribulka; Centre County Council of Governments Chair Jesse Barlow; Centre County Council of Governments Sustainable Planner Pamela Adams; Seven Group representatives Marcus Sheffer and Gerren Wagner; Leonard S. Fiore representative Tracy Gardener; Ross Ansel with Greenfield Architects; and Pittston City Mayor and Pennsylvania Municipal League President Micheal Lombardo.

Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors Chair Lisa Strickland spoke optimistically about the building's impact, stating, "It is my goal to ensure this building is successful and delivers opportunities for local and regional residents of all ages to tour this building so it serves as a promising site for learning and inspires innovative practices and investments."
