CRB

Ferguson Township hosted a Community Resilience Building Workshop on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 to identify sustainability and resilience goals in the Township.

Over 20 community members from organizations such as the State College School District, the Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors, and Centre Region Council of Governments were in attendance. The  workshop consisted of breaking out into small groups to discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities of Ferguson Township. The groups reconvened to discuss their identified priority actions. The consensus from all the groups was the importance of communication to Ferguson Township residents and community leaders on sustainability.

This workshop was offered through a collaborative partnership between The Nature Conservancy, Sustainable Pittsburgh, and the Pennsylvania Municipal League. As part of this program, a core team comprised of Township staff, regional members of the Council of Governments and the Ferguson Township Climate Action Committee who compiled existing maps and online tools, natural hazard mitigation plans, photos, historical information, damage assessments and claims prior to holding the workshop.

The Township will use the insight gained from these discussions to expand on Ferguson's inter-department directives to meet resilience and sustainability targets. The takeaways from this workshop will foster collaboration with and among community stakeholders that will advance the education, planning and ultimately the implementation of priority actions.
