Dog Park Safety

Tudek Dog Park

With summer in full swing, it is a great time of year to bring our furry family members out to play! Ferguson Township is home to a dog park located in Tudek Park. We would like to provide our residents with some tips to make the experience of going to the park a success.

  • Master obedience commands before going to the dog park. In a busy environment like a dog park, you may not be able to get your dog’s attention. Spend time having them learn commands like “sit”, “down”, and “come”.
  • Be alert and vigilant during your time at the dog park by always keeping an eye on your pet. Things can happen in an instant that turn a visit to the dog park into a headache.
  • Learn your dog’s body signals to make sure they are enjoying their visit. Some dogs can become overwhelmed and frightened with other, potentially larger, dogs around. Watch their tail to make sure they aren’t tucking it between their legs or staying low to the ground as a sign of fear.
  • In Tudek, all dogs must be legally licensed and vaccinated, and display current dog license and rabies tags.
  • Dog waste must be promptly cleaned up by dog owners / handlers and placed in proper receptacles. One of our resident’s dogs contracted Giardia which is typically found in contaminated feces. Please be mindful of our four-legged friends!
  • Be mindful of your dog becoming overtired. 30 – 60 minutes is enough time to enjoy the park especially in this summer heat. Bring a water bowl for your dogs to prevent dehydration.
  • Don’t bring any food, treats, or drink inside the Dog Park area.
  • Be considerate if you decide to bring toys. Some dogs get very aggressive if their toys are taken by other dogs. Make sure your dog doesn’t steal toys from other dogs too. Learn to share!
