Board Proclamation: April is Pennsylvania Safe Digging Month

811

At the March 21, 2023, Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting, the Board adopted a proclamation recognizing the month of April to be Pennsylvania Safe Digging Month.

Safe Digging Month is an awareness initiative sponsored by Pennsylvania 811 for the month of April. Traditionally outdoor projects start in the spring. Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month serves as a reminder to all excavators and homeowners to contact 811 at least three business days before you dig, so that the approximate location of their underground utility lines can be identified and marked by facility owners. The contact 811 before you dig process helps to prevent injuries, property damage, and inconvenient utility outages.

Utility lines run underground all over Ferguson Township, sometimes only a few inches below the surface. If you are planning an excavation project, dial 8-1-1 and inform the call center of your intention to dig. With the information you provide, 811 will notify utility companies in your area so they can come out and mark where their lines are to prevent damage.

No project is too small: notify 811 three days before planting even a small flower bed or tree, installing a mailbox post, or replacing a driveway.
