2021 Emergency Medical Services Week

EMS Strong

This year, May 16 to May 22 is officially Emergency Medical Services Week. Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service and this week is designated to recognize the brave men and women who provide lifesaving care to those in need, 24 hours-per-day, seven days-per-week.

Emergency medical services systems consist of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers. Members of Emergency Medical Services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.

This is the 46th annual National EMS Week with this year's theme being "This Is EMS: Caring for Our Communities".

Ferguson Township thanks our local EMS personnel for their service such as the Alpha Fire Company, the Ferguson Township Police Department, Centre Helps, and Mount Nittany Medical Center. In fact, Derek Hoover, our Ordinance Officer, also serves as an EMT. “I love helping the people in my own community", said Derek. "What keeps the job interesting is that everyday is different, you deal with all kinds of situations and never know where you could end up".

Ferguson Township recognizes the value and the accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services providers by proclaiming 2021 Emergency Medical Services Week in the Township. Visit naemt.org to learn more.
