Anti-Icing Pilot Project

Snow Plow

This winter season, Ferguson Township will test a new program in the hopes of keeping roads safer. Commonly known as “Anti-icing”, the Public Works crew will be pretreating roadways using a ‘salt brine’ before a potential snowstorm. Salt brine breaks snow and ice contact with roads due to its low freezing point (-6.0 °F). Once a snowfall begins, the Public Works’ equipment can remove the winter mixture much easier. PennDOT and the Borough of State College are currently using this method of treatment.

If this method proves useful for the Township, the Public Works Department will consider purchasing the equipment or expand services with PennDOT.
