Identity theft is a serious crime involving stealing another person's identity.  Often in identity theft cases, someone uses another person's identifying information such as another's name, credit card number, or social security number without permission and with the intent to commit fraud, scams, or other crimes. 

The Ferguson Township Police Department has compiled the following resources to help residents on the topic of identity theft.  Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. In fact, according to the Federal Trade Commission, the number of identity theft incidents has reached 9.9 million a year.  

It is very important to be informed about ways to keep yourself safe. Knowing the facts, plus doing simple exercises such as using a paper shredder, can help protect your information from falling into the wrong hands.  We have listed several websites that can both educate you about this crime and provide resources if you have become a victim.
