Reminder on Burning Brush & Leaf

Due to Brush & Leaf Collection being suspended for the month of April, residents are wanting to burn their brush & leaf. The Ferguson Township Police Department would like to remind our residents of the rules regarding this.

In Ferguson Township, residents are required to have a permit for having an open burn. This permit is required when the burning materials are emitted directly into the air without passing through a stack or chimney from an enclosed chamber. Residents can apply by visiting the Centre Region Code Administration.

"Recreational fires do not require a permit but must be at least 25 feet from a structure. Portable outdoor fireplaces, used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, shall be used 15 feet from any structure" from the Council of Governments' website.

The Ferguson Township Police Department would like to remind those who would maintain a fire, could be held liable for any damages and potential fines. Please be mindful of your fellow residents who may have medical conditions that are affected by smoke (i.e. Asthma).
