Press Release: Fatal Single Vehicle Car Crash, Ferguson Township

Fatal Single Vehicle Car Crash, Ferguson Township

State College, PA – On April 4, 2022, at 12:02 pm, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash in the 2100 block of West Gatesburg Rd.  The vehicle was flipped on its side with the driver trapped inside.  The driver, a 64-year-old Halfmoon Township man, was not breathing.  A Ferguson Township Police Officer and staff from Port Matilda EMS removed the vehicle’s windshield and moved the driver from the vehicle.  CPR was initiated but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was westbound on West Gatesburg Rd.  For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway, drove through a hay field, crossed over West Gatesburg Rd, struck a West Penn Power box, and then flipped on its side.  The driver may have suffered from a medical emergency prior to the crash.  The driver’s name will not be released until the family is notified.  A dog inside the vehicle was uninjured and relinquished to a family friend.

In addition to Port Matilda EMS, Centre Lifelink EMS, Alpha Fire Department and Alpha Fire Police assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Case Number: #22FT01829
