Have a Safe, Fun Summer!

Autumnwood Park

This summer is without a doubt an unusual one but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the summer! The Ferguson Township Police Department would like to remind residents of ways we can keep our community safe during the summer and beyond.

Drivers: be sure to follow the speed limit and use caution at stop signs. Pedestrians and bicyclists are especially out and about this time of year and with Penn State gearing up to resume in the fall, there will be even more. If you are going to pass a bike, give at least a 4 foot cushion between your car and the bicyclist. Drive like it's the street you live on!

Bicyclists: be vigilant and follow the rules of the road. Laws like stopping at stop signs, obeying traffic signals & riding on the right side of the road do not just apply to motor vehicles. Remember that anyone under the age of 12 must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. If you do bike on the road, please use hand signals:
  • To signal a left turn, extend the left hand and arm horizontally.
  • To signal a right turn, extend the right hand and arm horizontally, or extend your left hand and arm upward.
  • To signal a stop or decrease in speed, extend the left hand and arm downward.

Pedestrians: walk or jog against traffic. The summer is a great time to get some exercise and going against traffic is the best way for you to stay vigilant. Always remember to look both ways when crossing the street and use the sidewalks when present.

Everyone: wear a mask & social distance when out in public. With this hot weather, it is easy to want to leave our masks at home. Wearing one is the best way to keep our community safe. Stores are requiring that patrons must wear a mask while inside. Remember that your mask protects me and my mask protects you.

The Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority has released guidelines about attending the parks during COVID-19. Learn more about these by visiting crpr.org.

The purpose of all these rules is to help keep our community safe. We want to continuing building Ferguson into the best community it can be and we can't do it without you. Love & respect your fellow neighbors and thank you to those who continue to make Ferguson Township a great place to live and work!
