FTPD Enforcing COVID-19 Construction Guidelines

Construction Site

The Centre Region Code Administration (CRCA) and Ferguson Township Police Department (FTPD) are working together to ensure construction work is done safely in the face of the COVD-19 pandemic. The CRCA has released construction site requirements to allow contractors to resume construction during COVID-19. On Friday, June 5, CRCA held a webinar with local contractors to further discuss the Governor’s guidance on construction. Some of the guidelines include providing hand wash stations, staggering shifts, regular cleaning of common areas, etc. You can find the full requirements for residential and commercial construction here on the Council of Government’s website.

One of the key requirements for contractors is identifying a “Pandemic Safety Officer” for each project or work site. The Safety Officer’s responsibility will be to convey, implement, and enforce these guidelines for the protection of employees, suppliers, and other personnel onsite. The CRCA will conduct regular spot inspections and will notify the Safety Officer if any corrective action needs to be taken.

If a violation is observed at the worksite after a failed spot inspection, the Code Inspector may opt to postpone the inspection and will make contact with Ferguson Township Police Department. At this stage, the FTPD will make contact with the Safety Officer to discuss and offer education and guidance if necessary. A second violation may result in more severe enforcement action by FTPD.

The FTPD will continue to monitor operations in the Township to keep our community safe. To learn more about the Code Administration’s inspection protocol, click here.
