Ferguson Township Supervisors approve Cable Franchise Agreement with Comcast

Coaxial Cable

At the Regular Meeting on December 9, the Board adopted an ordinance authorizing a new ten-year franchise agreement with Comcast to allow the company to provide cable television services in the Township. This new agreement will be approved by all members of the Centre Area Cable Consortium, which includes the Townships of Ferguson, Patton, College, Halfmoon, Harris and Benner, as well as State College Borough and Bellefonte Borough.

The new agreement establishes the fee collected by the municipalities for the franchise; a capital fee intended to be used by C-NET; customer service standards; the provision of Educational and Governmental Channels (C-NET); and other protections and provisions to ensure quality service delivery and the protection of public assets.

This agreement only applies to the provision of cable television service, and does not apply to Comcast Internet, phone, home security or other services. It is also non-exclusive, meaning the Township can, and does, adopt cable franchise agreements with other providers. The adoption of this agreement does not impact any of the cable services customers are currently receiving from Comcast.

Questions about the new franchise agreement should be directed to David Pribulka, Township Manager, by email at dpribulka@twp.ferguson.pa.us or by calling (814) 238-4651 during normal business hours of the Township.
