The Intergovernmental Solar Power Purchase Agreement Working Group has been meeting over the past year to discuss creating a Solar PPA. A Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is "a financial agreement where a developer arranges for the design, permitting, financing and installation of a solar energy system on a customer’s property at little to no cost". This means a solar array would be built and allow customers such as Ferguson Township to buy power from it at a lower rate than traditional means. Six Centre County Municipalities including Ferguson Township are considering entering into a joint Solar PPA. The Working Group, headed by Chairman Peter Buckland, is currently in the process of finding a Consultant to produce a "Request for Quotation" to create a pricing structure.
Ferguson Township is no stranger to looking into green energy solutions; such as the inclusion of an all-electric vehicle to its fleet and installation of an electric vehicle charging station. The Township's new Public Works Facility will also include solar panels to generate electricity. This Solar PPA would allow the Township to save on electrical costs over the next 15 to 25 years.
