Scam alert: Social Security accounts being cloned

Date: April 25, 2019

The Ferguson Township Police Department has received a number of calls from residents reporting attempts
by identity thieves to create an online account with the Social Security Administration. Most are residents who
are receiving Social Security benefits; each has received a letter from the Social Security Administration advising
of the creation of a new account and a change of address notice.

Ferguson Township Police advise residents to be vigilant in checking your mail for such letters, and should you receive one, to immediately contact the Social Security Administration State College office at 901 University Dr Suite 2. The phone number is (800) 772-1213 . These reports will be investigated by the Office of the Inspector General.
