Sidewalks must be cleared after any amount of snow has fallen

Date: February 13, 2019

Ferguson Township would like to remind residents of two requirements of the Township's Code of Ordinances:

1. No Street Parking Policy: Residents are expected to clear vehicles from the streets to allow plows access. The Code of Ordinances prohibits parking when a snowfall of two or more inches is anticipated; however, residents are asked to clear the streets after any amount of snowfall or ice to allow our snow fighters clear access for salting and plowing.

2. Sidewalk Maintenance Requirements: The two- or more inches of snowfall requirement does not apply to sidewalk maintenance. Residents are expected to clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours after a snowfall of any amount has ended.

In most cases, it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain sidewalks along his or her property. This is in accordance with § 21-207 of the Township Code of Ordinances. The full width of any sidewalk adjoining your property must be cleared of snow or ice within 24 hours after the snow or precipitation has occurred. The Board of Supervisors adopts a Sidewalk Snow Removal Map each year to illustrate the sidewalks that must be maintained. The blue areas show which sidewalks are exempt.
