Ferguson Township Police investigate robbery and bomb threats

Date: August 23, 2017

The Ferguson Township Police Department (FTPD) is investigating a robbery that occurred at 3:54 pm
yesterday at 650 Science Park Road (SPE Federal Credit Union). The suspect entered the bank
wearing a long lavender dress and ivory head covering.  The suspect was wearing white gloves and a clear mask.

The suspect placed a device on the counter and handed a note to the bank teller.  The note indicated that the suspect was armed and that the device was a bomb. The suspect demanded large bills and threatened to detonate the device. The suspect then placed a large two tone green/light green bag/tote on the counter. After receiving the cash, the suspect then fled north, crossing Science Park Road and then heading east with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Earlier in the day, bomb threats were made at 2:14 pm to the Wal-Mart on North Atherton Street and to a Penn State building located near North Atherton Street and West College Avenue. The Penn State Bomb Squad as well as the Centre Region Tactical Response Team responded to all of the bomb threats, and located a device at each location. The Bomb Squad was able to determine that the devices were fake and had no explosive ability.

This investigation is being completed as a joint operation by the Ferguson Township, Patton Township, State College Borough, and Penn State University Police, and the FBI.

Anyone with information should contact the Ferguson Township Police Department at (814) 237-1172.
