Songbird Sanctuary Park Master Plan

Ferguson Township welcomed a combined total of 20 or more residents to two public meetings to discuss a master plan for Songbird Sanctuary Park at the cul-de-sac on Owens Drive. This passive recreation area and pollinator garden is located behind The Waffle Shop on West College Avenue.

The Township also invited residents to complete an online survey to identify and prioritize their hopes for the park.

An ad hoc committee of residents and individuals representing The State College Bird Club, Nittany Bike Association, the Centre County Master Gardeners, and the Ferguson Township Parks and Recreation Committee is creating the master plan.  The Parks and Recreation Committee will review residents’ recommendations as the master planning process continues.

The committee’s guiding principle during the master planning process is keeping the Park in its natural state to preserve its environmental benefits, providing a few passive park features for recreation, and preserving the privacy of the surrounding neighborhoods.

To date, residents express most support for these passive park features:

• Walking dirt paths
• Invasive plant management
• Benches
