Community and Education

Our Township Arborist, Lance King, plays an essential community role in promoting the health of our Township street and park trees.  As such, he organizes educational events for Arbor Day.

The Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 29, 2017 as Arbor Day in Ferguson Township.

Ferguson Township celebrated in the Snetsinger Butterfly Garden at Tom Tudek Memorial Park.

This year, volunteers helped restore the native habitat in the Snetsinger Butterfly Garden by removing invasive species and planting new trees.

Board of Supervisors President Steve Miller read the Township's Arbor Day Proclamation. The event was also notable for Ferguson Township being named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Representatives of the Pa. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources presented the honor to Miller and to Supervisor Laura Dininni.

Community Outreach

Ferguson Township Arborist Lance King spoke May 25 at a Seedlings for Schools presentation by Columbia Gas and the non-profit Wildlife for Everyone Foundation at the Wonderland Charter School.

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania presented a $5,000 check to the foundation in support of the 2018 Seedlings for Schools program, which teaches the importance of wildlife care, development and growth. The donation is funded by the NiSource Charitable Foundation.

Pennsylvania State Senator Jake Corman also attended.

Centre County teachers of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the educational 2018 Seedlings for Schools Program, with funding from Wildlife for Everyone.
Any Pennsylvania teacher may request seedlings and educational packets at no cost for planting during the spring of 2018. Seedlings and planting instructions will be provided to each student to plant a tree at home, school or in the community. Visit the Seedlings for Schools Program website for more information.
